Zero reconciliation firefighting: How Ventory brought full traceability to overflow FMCG stock for a leading global 3PL provider
With Ventory as a white-labeled tracking layer, the 3PL gave its global FMCG client direct stock visibility and removed external inventory blind spots during peak demand surges.
Industry: 3PL
Client: Global FMCG client, ambient home and personal care
Distribution: UK, Europe, Middle East and South Asia
Network: 3 automated UK warehouses, 155,000 pallets
On Ventory: 42 active users, 4,638 SKUs
Setup: White-labeled, via API, one smartphone per site
Automation has limits. Peak demand finds them.
To comply with corporate confidentiality agreements, customer names are anonymized. All operational data, performance metrics and workflow details represent live deployment results.
A leading global third-party logistics provider (3PL) in the UK manages ambient (non-temperature-controlled) home and personal care products for a global fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) client. The 3PL distributes these goods across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and South Asia. Its primary UK operations run across 3 highly automated warehouse facilities with a combined capacity of 155,000 pallets.
Those sites run at peak efficiency. But physical automation has limits. Once a facility reaches 92-94% capacity, holding more stock on-site severely degrades internal movement and throughput. To avoid bottlenecks during peak demand surges, overflow inventory had to move to external, third-party storage facilities.
Before Ventory, tracking stock across these partner locations created three problems:
- Manual, double-entry tracking: Pallet label data was captured by hand or with handheld scanners tethered to computers. A single keystroke error or duplicate entry could make an entire pallet untraceable.
- Reconciliation firefighting: Discrepancies between the 3PL, the FMCG client and the storage partners meant a lot of manual coordination by phone. The FMCG client needed full visibility of overflow stock. Legacy systems gave no real-time access to it.
- No single source of truth: Without a shared, real-time view of overflow inventory, the 3PL risked fulfilment delays. Its FMCG client faced critical inventory blind spots.
A lightweight digital layer. No change to core IT.
Ventory closed the overflow visibility gap with a lightweight digital layer, without touching core enterprise IT systems. Today, 42 active users manage 4,638 FMCG SKUs on Ventory across the 3PL's UK overflow storage network. Between February and July 2026, the network moved 46,610 pallets and processed 1,364 orders.

- White-labeled user experience: The 3PL used Ventory's custom branding and API architecture to deliver a dedicated tracking portal under its own brand. Its primary warehouse management systems stay shielded from direct external exposure.
- Competitive differentiation: Real-time visibility into overflow stock gave the 3PL measurable added value for its client's inventory planning and order fulfilment. That strengthened its position at contract renewal.
- Rapid network scale-up: New third-party overflow sites are onboarded fast, with minimal configuration. The tracking network scales with sudden inventory surges.
- Secure third-party deployment: Storage partner staff capture and upload live stock data in the Ventory Mobile App on a smartphone with regular data connectivity. No complex integrations with each partner's internal IT networks and systems.
- Minimal hardware footprint: One smartphone per overflow site. No local software installs, no on-site servers, no IT overhaul.
